The electro-hydraulic disc brake subsystems supplied are the result of many years of research and development. This began with a 1966-1968 BART development test program and was followed by a 15-month DRPA PATCO Line revenue service test program in 1970.
Tec Tran Corporation supplies a redundant hydraulic fail-safe braking system. The subsystems employ two or three hydraulic circuits with pressure and spring applied actuators. The Tec Tran brake subsystem satisfies fail-safe criteria by employing the following features:
- Isolation of the basic control systems, one per truck
- Continuous monitoring of brake cylinder pressure
- Automatic emergency initiation
- Pressure, Spring, Dual caliper designs
